  Spider Vein Treatment and Removal

Sclerotherapy is best way to treat spider veins which are much smaller than varicose veins. A solution (sclerosing agent) is injected directly into the venules causing an inflammation of the walls of the vessel. The venules disappear over a few weeks to months. A typical sclerotherapy session is relatively quick, lasting only about 15 to 45 minutes. read more

What is the differences between varicose & spider veins?

Varicose veins are very swollen and raised above the surface of the skin. They are dark purple or blue in color, and can look like cords or very twisted and bulging. Spider veins are similar to varicose veins, but they are smaller, are often red or blue in color, and are closer to the surface of the skin than varicose veins. They can look like a tree branch or spider web with their short jagged lines. read more

After your spider vein treatment

Although you probably won't want to wear any leg baring fashions for about two weeks, your activity will not be significantly limited in any other way from sclerotherapy treatment. You will be encouraged to walk to prevent clots from forming in the deep veins of the legs. A one-month healing interval must pass before you may have your second series of injections in the same site. After each treatment, you will notice further improvement of your legs' appearance. read more

Treatment Information

Women of any age may be good candidates for sclerotherapy, but most fall in the 30-to-60 year old category. In some women, spider veins may become noticeable very early in the teen years. For others, the veins may not become obvious until they reach their 40's. Serious medical complications from sclerotherapy are extremely rare when the procedure is performed by a qualified practitioner. However, they may occur. Risks include the formation of blood clots in the veins, severe inflammation, allergic reactions to the sclerosing solution and skin injury that could leave a small scar.
